History of Bitter Creek
In the 1990's, Bitter Creek founder Rich Hansen became interested in the hobby of candle making. In his search for supplies, he quickly realized the selection was limited and the prices were high. The industry clearly needed a supplier that had both a quality selection and great prices for consumers. It was then that he began investing in bulk supplies and sold any extra supplies he did not need to other candle makers to save money.
Rich launched a small website in 1998, and what began as a part-time side business grew rapidly. More and more candle makers became aware of his selection of high quality yet low priced supplies. Soon after. Bitter Creek Candle Supply quickly became a full time business. With a lot of hard work and dedication, Bitter Creek has become one of the largest online candle suppliers today!
The company has grown from only a few part time employees to a full time dedicated staff. In July of 1999, the company moved to its current location in Ashland, Wisconsin. Bitter Creek outgrew its original warehouse and, over the several years, expanded to over 37,000 square feet! The expansions included areas for our picking, packaging & repackaging departments and moving and remodeling our fragrance department to make room for our ever-growing line. The most recent addition to our facility is a pair of state-of-the-art fragrance testing booths built in 2015. Our front office currently houses a showroom with many of our products on display as well as a sample sniffing station with all of our fragrances!
Bitter Creek purchased Sissie's Candle Supply in Texas in 2003, obtained the exclusive rights to carry the Wick Your Wax line of fragrance out of Canada in 2005, and completed the purchase of Bubbles n' Lights in Iowa in March 2006. Bitter Creek proudly represents the fragrance line of each company.
